News has emerged today that Gaikai, the open cloud gaming platform, have been sending out press invites to an E3 conference which will announce a streaming partnership with a “major console manufacturer”.

It is all but confirmed that the partnership is going to be made with Sony after several hints and rumours. “Gaikai has major announcements for E3, which has the potential to change the future of video game, the game consoles and the way in which we play” is what the invite announces.

This leads to speculation that Sony is going to introduce a game streaming service, possibly on the PS3 platform (or maybe a separate product) which will be similar to the service offered by OnLive.

It raises the question of what Sony have planned for next gen, or, if they will even have a next gen.
